about Dr. George Geysen...
Dr. Geysen is the Executive and Clinical Director of ChangePoint. He is a Forensic and Clinical Psychologist with fifteen years of experience. He is licensed as a psychologist in the State of Connecticut and is a Clinical Member of the Connecticut Association for the Treatment of Sexual Offenders (CATSO). Dr. Geysen is a member of many professional associations in psychology, including the American and Connecticut Psychological Associations and the American Law and Psychology Society.
In addition to his private practice of clinical psychology at ChangePoint, Dr. Geysen has been a member of the clinical staff at the Whiting Forensic Division of Connecticut Valley Hospital, and is a member of the Affiliate faculty at the Graduate Institute of Professional Psychology at the University of Hartford.
Dr. Geysen’s clinical interests include performing integrative psychotherapy with adolescents, adults and couples. He employs an approach that uses a base of cognitive and dynamic psychotherapies, while integrating state of the art aspects of Buddhism such as mindfulness and purposeful attention as well as the use of paradox and notions of attachment into his clinical work. He is currently seeking ways in which to integrate the notions of forgiveness and acceptance into his psychotherapy with patients.
Dr. Geysen’s forensic interests include the treatment of problem sexual behavior and sexual addiction in adults. He also performs evaluations of sexual offense and violence risk with juveniles and adults, evaluation of competency, malingering, mental status at the time of the offense and criminal responsibility. He also performs parenting and child custody evaluations. He is currently investigating concepts related to adjudicative competence in juveniles, notions of developmental immaturity and potential application for adults with mental retardation as well as forensic issues concerning death penalty litigation.
Dr. Geysen is a near life-long resident of Connecticut.
